Tests for connection speeds and data transfer

Here is how you perform a "ping test" and a "traceroute" to check connection latency (how fast the data travels to and from your connection):

Ping test for latency:
1. Firstly make sure you are connected to the internet.
- then from your desktop screen, click the Start button
- then click Run
2. Type command in the Open box
- then click the OK button
3. From the command line type the following command:
ping www.maxnet.co.nz (or the server name that you are having problems with, ie, gamingserver.maxnet.co.nz etc)
- then press Enter on the keyboard. The Ping program will try to contact the server 4 times.

A successful ping is where the server returns the 4 packets of data that the Ping program sent out (with 0% packets lost in the transfer). This means your connection is passing data correctly and should be able to download webpages and e-mail without difficulty. The higher the time figure is, the slower the selected site or server is likely to download. You may want to test another website or server to see if that works aswell.

Traceroute test for latency:
1. Firstly make sure you are connected to the internet.
- then from your desktop screen, click the Start button
- then click Run
2. Type command in the Open box
- then click the OK button
3. From the command line type the following command:
tracert www.maxnet.co.nz (or the server name that you are having problems with, ie, gamingserver.maxnet.co.nz etc)

Once you have performed the above tests, please copy and paste the results into an email addressed to Maxnet Support on help@maxnet.co.nz including the phone number that you have ADSL installed on and the router/morem make and model that you are using.

Speedtests for International and National sites
If your latency is fine, but you have concerns with the speed you are getting per second, then please click the following links below, which are test sites designed to determine the speed of your connection:
International Site test:
http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/
On this site, go to the area labelled "Start a personal test" and click on the appropriate connection type you have and click on Start.

National Site test:
http://nzadsl.co.nz/speedtest/
On this site, simply click the 500K Test (recommended) or the 1000K Test to reveal the results of your connection speed.

Once you have performed the above tests, please copy and paste the results into an email addressed to Maxnet Support on help@maxnet.co.nz including the phone number that you have ADSL installed on and the router/modem make and model that you are using.
